Herbalife

Herbalife = amazing in green smoothies as a semi-replacement for fruit.

Vanilla nutritional shake powder + small handful almonds + 1 prune + 2 tbsp raisins + 1/3 cup mango + lots of organic lettuce + nutmeg = so amazingly good!

It tastes like vanilla almond milk boosted up a notch :DD in flavor and nutrition!

My Summer Job: Farming for a CSA!

I'm really excited for Friday!

Reasons:

  1. My ECON exam will be over Thursday night. My brain is going "No more! No more!!" to the deluge of information.
  2. My informal interview for a farming job at a CSA!
  3. Organic veggies…
  4. ….learning how to farm…
  5. …and not wasting my time during the summer… how much better can it get??
  6. My job experience will be broadened!
  7. I'm finally getting to do something I'm really interested in, and that I have little experience in! A new challenge!
  8. A chance at a non-desk job! Finally!
  9. Great exercise for summer!
  10. JUST SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY.

Raw v. Cooked... kinda

Observation: It's easy to stay mostly raw on green smoothies until I eat something cooked or processed. However... moderation is key! I don't have so much of a reaction if my cooked food is MSG-less (the dumplings in my freezer are MSG filled) and if it consists mostly of vegetables (i.e. vegetable soup).

Keeping cooked stuff bland makes it easier, too.

Green smoothies really make me more sensitive to what I need and don't need to eat :D

Too much fruit sugar!

Looking back... during my 30+ days green smoothie trial, I added a lot of fruit to my smoothies!

For instance, I probably only added 1 to 1.5 servings of strawberries to my smoothie this morning. Granted, I added only 1 head of romaine (but romaine has a really strong taste!) and I ate it with raisins and nuts, but I can't believe how sweet my smoothies were!

This past week, my most common smoothie was one small apple, a carrot, 1/2 lemon, and spinach. It was a much more frugal smoothie!

No wonder I couldn't lose weight on those smoothies-- there was too much fruit fueling my sugar addiction!

Green Smoothie Detox Symptoms? Or Reoccurring Flu?

I have a cough and a really sore throat. It’s getting better, though it was really bad this morning. Even yawning hurt.
I think it’s detox. It’s kinda nice, though, because I haven’t been able to eat *that* much because of my sore throat.
My strawberry and romaine smoothie this morning was kinda gross. But adding sunflower seeds and golden raisins made it all better.
I had it for both breakfast and lunch. I really don’t like romaine in my smoothie.

However, my stomach was really queasy between classes, and somehow, I needed to eat something to soothe it. And of course, on campus, the only thing available is stuff like cookies, so I bought an oatmeal raisin cookie to eat during Econ.
And then I went with my friend to eat organic pizza and we got (junior scoops of) ice cream later.
We walked around for around 45 minutes after, though. We were looking in Dana building for the environmentally friendly toilets I heard about last year.
(It was unsuccessful.)
It was fun! We’re going to do this every two to three weeks now.
It would be nice to get my parking permit back for these days, though—we spent forty-five minutes looking for parking space!

I need some good salad recipes. I find kale and collards to be more appetizing than romaine.
I’m going to pamper myself tomorrow and buy some collards.

Aww. Reading my blog posts from the beginning of this school year… I was so active  Blah, exams.
I’ve motivated myself to start exercising in the mornings. Tomorrow—a new start! I like playing racketball right now :D

Back on green smoothies again (Part 2)

What I bought on Sunday for green smoothies:

Organic spinach from Costco

Organic carrots from Costco

Conventional celery from Costco

Frozen fruit from TJ's (mango and strawberries)

Organic romaine lettuce from TJ's

Apples from TJ's

I had lemons and frozen berries already.

Today is Tuesday, and I've pretty much finished eating for the day. I still have

½ of the organic spinach I bought

A lot of carrots

All of the celery

½ bag of mango and ¾ bag of strawberries

¾ romaine lettuce

3 apples

1.5 lemons

1 bag berries

I think I will make it until at least Friday J
